Snapchat export split into multiple ZIP files: what to do

Large Snapchat exports can arrive as several ZIP files, usually with names starting with mydata~. Download every part and keep them together: the file with dates and locations, memories_history.json, is in one of the parts, while the photos and videos are spread across all of them. Process all parts at once rather than one at a time.

Why it matters

Each memory’s date and location are listed in one JSON file, but the photos and videos are spread across the parts. If you repair one part on its own, many files have no matching record and keep the wrong date. Selecting every part together lets each file be matched with its own record.

How to do it with MemoriesBack

  1. Download every ZIP part from Snapchat’s See exports page. You do not need to unzip them.
  2. Open MemoriesBack and select all the parts at once (hold Shift or Cmd/Ctrl in the file picker).
  3. Check the summary: it shows how many photos, videos, captions and dated records were found across all parts.
  4. Repair. Identical copies of the same file in different parts are merged, so you do not get duplicates.

Tips

Keep the original ZIPs until you have checked the result. Very large libraries take a while in the browser; use Chrome or Edge on a computer and keep the tab in front while it runs.

Questions

Do I need to unzip the parts first?

No. MemoriesBack reads the ZIP files directly in your browser.

One part is missing — can I still repair the rest?

Yes, but memories whose files or records are in the missing part cannot be matched. Download the missing part from Snapchat if it is still available, or request a new export.
