Snapchat Memories storage changes in 2027: what “archived” means

According to Snapchat’s help page, Memories are not deleted just because you do not upgrade storage. Starting in January 2027, Memories older than one year that fall outside your oldest 5 GB may be archived: they stay on Snapchat, but opening, editing or sharing them needs a storage plan or a download. Snapchat says it will notify you before changes.

Keeping your own copy

  1. Download your data from Snapchat with Memories and Export JSON Files on (instructions).
  2. Repair the export so captions, dates and places are back in the files — MemoriesBack does this in your browser, free for your oldest 100 photos.
  3. Back the folder up wherever you keep photos.

What we do not claim

We do not know your account’s storage or which of your Memories would be affected, and there is no deletion countdown. MemoriesBack is independent and not affiliated with Snap Inc.
