What is memories_history.json in a Snapchat export?
memories_history.json is the file in your Snapchat data export that lists every saved memory with its capture date (in UTC), whether it is an image or a video, and — when Snapchat recorded one — its latitude and longitude. It is the only place in the export where the full timestamp and location are kept, so it is what any tool needs to restore dates and places.
Where to find it
It is inside the json/ folder of your export, usually in the first ZIP part. It is only included when you turn on Export JSON Files when requesting your data (Snapchat’s instructions). Select all ZIP parts together so it can be matched with the media files.
What a record looks like
Records sit in a "Saved Media" list with fields such as "Date": "2021-03-02 14:20:00 UTC", "Media Type": "Image" and "Location": "Latitude, Longitude: 51.5072, -0.1276". A location of 0, 0 is a placeholder for “unknown”, not a real place.
Matching records to files
Some exports include a media ID in each record’s download link; others leave the link empty. MemoriesBack uses the ID when present, and otherwise pairs a record with a file only when they are the only image (or only video) on that UTC day. It never matches by order or closest time, and lists every record it could not place in manifest.json.
